Columbia Professor Ari Paul thinks so.

In a lengthy defense of Mike Elk, a union supporter controversially hired by POLITICO to cover labor and employment, Paul argues that there is no conflict of interest in such an arrangement:

Why Americans Don’t Trust Journalists

According to polls conducted by Gallup over the past 40 years, America’s trust in journalism has consistently been low.

And why shouldn't it be?

Take POLITICO for example, one of Washington, DC’s most popular news sources which recently hired Mike Elk to be their labor and employment “reporter.”  Many POLITICO readers may not know Elk has a clear union bias.

“The Center for Worker Freedom is “concerned” with labor reporter Mike Elk‘s plans to unionize Politico. So they’re offering the suburban Virginia public outreach to educate employees on why not to be taken in by the cause that Elk plotted from the time he was hired last October.”

“’This is the most despicable union propaganda I have ever seen; they’re basically saying ‘right-to-work could kill you.’ That’s outrageous, and as far as I know has zero data to back it up,’ Matt Patterson, executive director of the Americans for Tax Reform's Center for Worker Freedom, told Watchdog.org via email.”

California hospitals, like hospitals everywhere, are facing a stronger than usual flu season.  Unfortunately, thanks to the National Nurses United (NNU), flu season is not the only battle they are waging.  The NNU has been using last year’s Ebola scare to justify strikes and work stoppages when nurses are needed most.  CWF’s Matt Patterson explained the union’s strategy in The Sacramento Bee:

CWF awarded the National Nurses United (NNU) “Labor Loser” of the Year, 2014.  The nurses’ union, which represents 185,000 workers, received the first annual award for using the Ebola crisis as a bargaining tactic to advance its leftist political agenda.  CWF’s Matt Patterson explained why the NNU received this honor in Forbes:

“It was tough competition, but the NNU has distinguished itself by exemplifying the defining traits of organized labor — thuggish tactics, left-wing zealotry, and tireless advocacy for more and bigger government.”
