Today, the Department of Labor announced a new rule on Small Business Health Plans, also known as Association Health Plans (AHPs).

The new rule allows small businesses and sole proprietors to join together to provide more affordable health insurance for their employees and themselves.

Unions have advocated for years that wages are 3% higher in forced-unionism states than in Right-to-Work states. However, on September 1, 2015, James Sherk, formerly of the Heritage Foundation, released a report, which found that Right to Work doesn’t lower private-sector pay when differences in cost-of-living are accounted for.

New DOL Wage and Hour Opinion Letters Bring Clarity

On April 12, 2018, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) issued three new wage and hour opinion letters.

The letters address compliance under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and other laws.

The Center for Worker Freedom applauds the U.S. Senate for voting for these highly qualified worker freedom advocates.

Today, Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) and the Center for Worker Freedom (CWF) released a letter to the U.S. Senate, urging Senators to vote for Patrick Pizzella for Deputy Secretary of the Department of Labor and John Ring for Board Member of the National Labor Relations Board.

As the letter says, both men have extensive experience and are strong advocates for worker freedom. Because they are strong nominees, the U.S. Senate should confirm both men.

Advancing Freedom: Florida Passes Union Recertification Bill

On March 11, 2018, Florida Governor Rick Scott (R) signed HB 7055 into law, changing collective bargaining between school districts and unions. The House version passed on March 5^th with a vote of 74 to 39 after amendment, while the Senate voted 20 to 17 to approve the amended version on March 5^th as well.

On November 7, 2017, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 3441, the Save Local Business Act. The legislation was introduced by Representative Bradley Byrne (R-AL) on July 27, 2017 and had bipartisan support.

NLRB Vacates its Joint Employer Ruling

On February 26, 2018, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) vacated its December 14, 2017 decision in Hy-Brand Industrial Contractors, Ltd. And Brandt Construction Co. The December decision overturned the Browning-Ferris case, which greatly expanded the legal liability of franchisors, like McDonald’s.

Tomorrow: Senate HELP votes on Ring for NLRB

On February 7, 2018, Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) announced that the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee would vote on President Trump’s nominee to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) on February 14^th. President Trump nominated John Ring for this position on January 12, 2018, to replace Chairman Philip Miscimarra, whose term ended on December 16, 2017.
