Since the UAW failure in Chattanooga, it seems that current Secretary-Treasurer Dennis Williams has taken the reigns of the organization in advance of his formal coronation this June.

The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) is at it again, and this time they are coming after college football.

Yes, college football players at Northwestern University are now allowed to unionize.

It seems strange, right?

These players are still students in college, without a paying job. But that is not what the unions buddies at the NLRB are arguing.

Subaru Dealership's Brilliant Union Jujutsu

In an effort to try and embarrass and humiliate a Subaru dealership, the local United Brotherhood Of Carpenters And Joiners Of America Local 201 union in Wichita put up a sign in front of the dealership, located on public property, which reads “SHAME ON SUBARU OF WICHITA.”

Rather than taking the criticism, the dealership cleverly fought back with a sign almost identical in design which reads "FOR HAVING UNBEATABLE PRICES"

Ouch. This should be a lesson to unions - two can play at this game.

The UAW has lost the election for the unionization of the VW plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The union is not accepting this defeat easily, if at all. They recently filed an objection with the NLRB, claiming that the election was compromised by political interference. Union members often have the reputation of acting mean and ruthless, but threatening women and children? Now that is a new low.

Sadly, this is exactly what happened last year in Washington State. According to a report in the Daily Caller, members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) in Vancouver, Washington, have been charged by the NLRB “….. with not only attacking company workers, but with threatening to rape one manager’s daughter and issuing veiled threats to another’s children,” during a labor dispute that began in February 2013.

German Union Needs a UAW Victory to Justify Its Own Existence

In an excellent article for RealClearMarkets, economist Diana Furchtgott-Roth speculates as to the real reason Volkswagen seems to be bending over backward to help the UAW into its Chattanooga facility, despite the fact that unionization would increase labor costs and hurt productivity: IG Metall, the industrial union that controls the company's Works Council back in Germany.

A win for the UAW, she notes, would also be a win for Metall, even if it means a loss for the plant itself:

Sen. Bob Corker Drops a Bombshell

Late Wednesday Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) -- who has been an outspoken critic of the United Auto Workers (UAW) union-- dropped a bombshell into the already incendiary debate about unionization at Chattanooga's Volkswagen assembly plant.

Corker's office released a statement claiming that the Senator had it on good authority that a vote against unionization by VW workers would secure the long-sought expansion of the Chattanooga facility. From the Chattanoogan:

Hello Mr. King. My name is Matt. You don’t know me, but I feel we are connected. You see, I am one of the taxpayers whose money was used to bail out the auto industry in 2009.

You remember that, don’t you? Something like $60 billion of our money that President Barack Obama used to prop up Chrysler and General Motors. You know those companies right? During the bailout your union was given 1/6th ownership of GM, if I am not mistaken.
