Overtaxed UAW Members Pay Dues, Get Little in Return

Ever thought that dues for unions are like a tax, taxes that come out of the workers’ paychecks to pay for representation? And what do these workers get in return? Matt Patterson Executive Director at the Center for Worker Freedom wrote commentary about this very issue that was featured in the Detroit Free Press on Sunday.  Below is an excerpt:

Union dues are a tax.

They are a taxhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png one must often pay for the privilege of working, just as a tax is something one must pay for the privilege of doing business.

Taxeshttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png are imposed by the government (and in theory) are necessary to pay for the daily operations of the government. Dues are required by a union to pay for the alleged benefits of representation.

We can all see what we get for our taxes: garbage pickup, police/military protection, mail delivery, etc. But what is it exactly that union members get for their “work tax” (dues)?
