Voter Suppression In California: Minority Disenfranchisement in the Golden State
The Center for Worker Freedom’s Matt Patterson wrote a column on November 3 in Forbes, detailing the disenfranchisement of thousands of eligible voters in California. Patterson explains that farm workers at the Fresno-based Gerawan Farm voted last November to remove the United Farm Workers (UFW) union from their workplace, but these votes have been sequestered by the Agricultural Labor Relations Board (ALRB).
Patterson notes that the widespread concern for voter integrity on this election day make this injustice a concern for both Democrats and Republicans:
“For conservatives, the concern is that only people who are eligible to vote be allowed to do so… Liberals, meanwhile, fear that minority and low-income voters will be disenfranchised…
But what if I told you there is a case of actual, confirmed voter suppression in California, the details of which should satisfy the concern criteria of both the Left and the Right? Thousands of ballots, cast by eligible, minority voters, actively suppressed by a government agency.
It’s been happening in California’s Central Valley for a year now, a disgusting abuse of power by state-appointed bureaucrats that should enrage everyone at both ends of the political spectrum.”
