WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Exclusive video obtained by The Center for Worker Freedom (CWF) shows Dolores Huerta bullying a farmworker at a party in Sacramento.
The United Farm Workers union (UFW) co-founder was attempting to prevent farmworker Silvia Lopez from meeting Governor Jerry Brown at a party in Sacramento on June 24.
Lopez has spearheaded a decertification of the UFW at Fresno-based Gerawan Farming. The Gerawan workers voted to decertify the union in November 2013. The state labor board (ALRB), however, in collusion with union officials, refuses to count their votes and has attempted to unilaterally impose a collective bargaining contract on the farm.
Huerta founded the UFW in 1965 with Cesar Chavez, and served as the union's Vice President until 1999. She is an avowed socialist who holds an honorary chair at the Democratic Socialists of America and who openly praised Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez.
Writing for Forbes, CWF executive director Matt Patterson notes, "Huerta is a lifelong and ardent supporter of parties and regimes that use oppression as a political weapon."
Patterson added in a statement, "Union bosses have been suppressing workers’ rights and speech for decades. Huerta physically pushing Lopez away from her Governor is only the latest and most visceral example of that."
