Obama, NLRB Ambush Workers
Unsurprisingly, President Obama vetoed S. J. Resolution 8, which supporters had hoped would nullify the National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) ambush election rule.
In his memorandum of disapproval, President Barack Obama wrote, “Because this resolution seeks to undermine a streamlined democratic process that allows American workers to freely choose to make their voices heard, I cannot support it.”
Thanks to the ambush election rule, as of April 14 this year, representation elections could be held as early as 10 days after a petition is filed. This short time period will not allow workers enough time to fully discuss the effects of an organized workplace, making it much easier for unions to win representation.
