"On August 26, one thousand angry farm workers descended on a government office in Visalia, California to demand freedom – from a union.
The workers, from Fresno-based Gerawan Farming, voted in a decertification election last November to rid themselves of the United Farm Workers (UFW) union once and for all.
But the authorities at the California Agricultural Labor Relations Board (ALRB) are refusing the count those votes. For almost a year now, the ballots have been sequestered in an ALRB safe, locked up along with the workers’ Constitutional freedoms of speech and assembly. So the workers made their presence known on August 26 at the Board’s regional office in Visalia, wearing shirts and carrying signs reading “Count our Votes!”
