CWF Project in the Daily Signal
In a follow-up piece to a report that highlighted the Center for Worker Freedom’s Indicator of Labor Liberty, Kevin Mooney of the Daily Signal discusses new challenges and victories in the right-to-work movement. The piece, Illinois Town Among New Fronts on Nation’s Right-to-Work Map as Supreme Court Deadlocks, was published on April 1, 2016.
CWF’s executive director, Matt Patterson, was quoted extensively in Mooney’s piece. On the varying interpretations of Michigan’s status, Patterson said,
“In our view, the Michigan Supreme Court’s decision [upholding the state’s public sector right-to-work law] begs the question why some workers are forced to pay and others not. If it is unconstitutional for some, it’s easy to see a policeman or firefighter questioning the constitutionality of his or her own forced dues.”
CWF fellow and project leader, Paige Halper, is also quoted, “right now the First Amendment isn’t being enforced either [in U.S. labor law]. But it’s still the law of the land.”
