Fresno - On Wednesday October 1 at 10 a.m. dozens of California farmworkers will be joined by elected officials at a presss conference to protest forced unionization.
Thousands of workers at Fresno-based Gerawan Farming are being railroaded into the United Farm Workers (UFW) against their will. The Gerawan workers held a decertification election last November, but the California Agricultural Labor Relations Board (ALRB) is refusing to count the votes in an outrageous violation of the workers' Constitutionally protected freedoms of speech and assembly.
The workers will be joined Wednesday by their families and supporters as well as California Assemblyman Jim Patterson, Assemblywoman Shannon Grove, and other elected officials across the hall from an ALRB hearing at the Radisson hotel in Fresno. Patterson recently sent a letter to Governor Jerry Brown urging him to act to help preserve the Gerawan workers’ civil liberties.
The Center For Worker Freedom (CWF) is helping to coordinate the press conference.
