United Auto Workers (UAW) Parking Lot Discrimination

Everyone knows the United Auto Workers likes to discriminate against non-union workers since they can’t deal with competition. It’s no secret they get behind protectionist and anti-immigrant legislation for the same reason.

But this is a bit much...

Acording to Carpe Diem, the blog of University of Michigan economics professor Mark Perry:

“I took this picture this afternoon about a mile from my office, at the parking lot of UAW Local 599 in Flint, on the edge of Buick City, which employed 28,000 GM workers in the 1980s and was demolished in 2002.”
After that he proceeds to ponder the legality of such blatant discrimination as well as the paradoxes it creates, like whether or not cars made by Canadian UAW members are still banned. Maybe that’s why the parking lot looks so empty.

Check out his post for the full inanity of unions at work, and for info on how to stop Big Labor’s efforts to undermine workers’ rights.

In the 60’s a new buzzword; “globalization” hit the American Shores. While the youth of America were feverish with xenophilia about fashion, music, culture, the American worker became infected with xenophobia. Globalization happened. What is American is not American and what is not American is American. Someone needs to tell the UAW the 60’s are over

The picture is from a UAW EMPLOYEE parking lot. I see nothing wrong with expecting the person who gets their paycheck from an American auto company to maybe actually support the products they produce. Hey who pays for this website? Ive got a good guess its some right wing Pro Big Business interest who has their own agenda to oppose unions. I'm a bit of a skeptic that the only reason you "whoever You Are" only runs this site because you have the the interests of the Poor Middle Class who are being screwed by the big bad UNIONS...

to Lcpl Mosley What do you know about Lazy? You probably drive a Toyota. Idiot don't you understand that buying foreign products only helps foreign economies. If you really care about your country then you should try to buy only american products these foreign companies flood our shores with their poisoned and not any better than american made products. But when american companies trey to sell in their countries their governments put tarriffs on our products so that they are unaffordable by the citizens in those foreign countries. So just because you don't care about your fellow americans or your country don't call anyone names that do care. The only reason you know what lazy means is because your picture is next to word in the dictionary.

If they keep that up... the parking lot will be empty

Dear Ken, just to let you know, mercantilism died out a couple centuries ago. You're so-called economic screed makes no sense. Yes, purchasing a foreign vehicle benefits a foreign manufacturer, but the benefits spill back into America. Let's tally up at least a few. Most likely the vehicle was assembled in America, giving Americans job. Most likely it was purchased from a dealership in America, providing yet more American jobs. The cost savings, both initially and over the life of the car translate into more money going into more sectors of the American economy. And at least some of the small amount of money that does go abroad is going to come back to the U.S. in the form of foreign investment. Please, do try again though.

Oh man Ken, tone down the third grade level insults a bit. Maybe Lcpl knows what "lazy" means because he(?)went to a private school and didn't have to get a second rate education from a unionized teacher. I absolutely drive a Toyota, before that a Nissan, because the Pontiac I had before that and my Dad's Chevy and Ford are sitting in the back yard, broken. Funny thing about buying based on quality rather than on the country of origin, you get better value for your money. You are right, tariffs are bad, which is why we should have free trade with all countries. That way we can buy the things they make best and they can buy the things we make best. Weird how freedom benefits everyone while protectionism favors the connected few.

Um Ken, I hate to tell you that Toyotas have the most domestically produced parts of any major brand. Toyota Highlanders, for example, are about 70% American made parts, and assembled in America. On the other hand, Chevy for example is both owned by foreigners and most models have a minority of domestically made parts. How do you define "American made"? The concept makes no sense today.
