Lawmakers who vote to override Governor Nixon’s veto will strike a blow for freedom

Today at a veto session in Jefferson City, Missouri lawmakers will gather to consider overriding Governor Jay Nixon’s veto of right-to-work.

Center for Worker Freedom and Americans for Tax Reform strongly urge lawmakers to support the override.

Right-to-work laws, which outlaw forced unionization as a condition of employment, have been passed in 25 of the 50 states including many of Missouri’s neighbors. Right-to-work has been shown to drive economic and population growth, as well as provide protections for workers who choose not to contribute to union bosses and their left wing agenda.

“Right-to-work has been shown to attract businesses and boost jobs,” said CWF Executive Director Matt Patterson. “But even if that wasn’t true, passing right-to-work would still be the right thing to do.”

Patterson stressed that Missouri legislators need to take responsibility for their state’s economy. “Missouri is competing with right-to-work states on almost all sides. If it wants to stay competitive it needs to be right-to-work.”

Right-to-work passed both houses of the Missouri legislature earlier this year but was vetoed by Governor Nixon in June. The legislature is expected to begin debating the override at 12pm Central Time.
